Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise…

Matthew 25:1-2 NKJV

When God called Moses to meet with Him on Mt. Sinai, He told Moses to bring Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and 70 elders. They went up, saw the Lord, and lived. They even went so far as to eat and drank in the presence of God. Nevertheless, Nadab and Abihu perished in their sin. Even though that one day on the mountain they saw God and lived they were not saved. Why?

The Lord Jesus Christ in the week of his betrayal told many great things to his twelve disciples. He had told them that He Himself was the way the truth and life. He told them that if they had seen Him then they had seen the Father. He told them He was leaving them to prepare a mansion in Heaven for them. When the night of His betrayal came after three years of ministry, miracles, signs, wonders, and preaching, eleven of the twelve would be saved, one would betray Jesus. Why?

Both the wise and the unwise virgins in Christ’s parable had been sitting in the church under the preaching of the word. The Lord gave success through the preaching of His Word – half of the virgins were wise. Nevertheless, only half of the virgins were wise and going to heaven. Only half of the virgins were prepared to meet the bridegroom. Why?

Today tens of millions, perhaps billions, of people have read the Scripture, heard the Scriptures preached, and may even be sitting in a church pew this coming Lord’s Day. Yet they are unprepared for the bridegroom to return. Why?

The answer to each of these questions can be summarized in one word: unbelief.

Conversely, Moses, the eleven disciples, and the invisible church on earth are prepared to meet their Savior for this reason, they believe God.

The wise virgins were prepared to meet the returning Christ because they believed the Word of Christ who was returning.

As Scripture presents promise after promise, fulfillment after fulfillment, glory after glory, the Christian rejoices, delights, and takes strength from the Word of the Lord concerning the one who came to Earth and the one who is coming again. He rejoices in it because He believes God. He rejoices in the Word of the Lord because He believes in the Lord of the Word.

As we transition from studies concerning the return of Christ to lessons on the virgins, we are faced with a most important questions: Do we believe the Word of God?

Many people read the Scripture. But many read without believing what it is they read. Let us not be foolish and unbelieving but may we be like the wise virgins and believe the Word of our Bridegroom Jesus Christ who has spoken to us in these last days.

He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

John 3:18 NKJV

I really like this simple sermon. How do we know they believed? They obeyed the word given to them. The reprobates did not believe and acted accordingly. Each in his or her own unique way. I would for you to take this into this realm a bit. Particularly how to examine ourselves in light of 2 Cor 13:5. That is if you take requests.

Randall thank you for the note. You are thinking very much in line with where we are going in the coming posts. Lord willing more to come on these topics soon. There is much to learn from the wise virgins around faith and obedience to the Lord! Have a blessed evening.
